A poetry video from a collection titled MY VOICE SOUGHT THE WIND, by Susan Abulhawa. This video speaks to the thousands of Palestinians, whose lands and livelihoods have been stolen or destroyed by Israel; so they in turn become a source of cheap labor that lines up before the sun, in long demeaning queues to work in Israel, where they are often exploited and mistreated.
Discrimination against Palestinians - 1 in 5 people within Israel's 1948 borders is Palestinian. They live with different standards and services than the Jewish citizens. Rarely covered in Western media, this topic is covered in this al-Jazeera report).
In this 2010 New York Times video, Bedouin members of Israel's Arab minority who are settled in the Naqab/Negev Desert, fight government plans to relocate them from their traditional homes. Israel refuses them permits for homes and wants to corral them in designated areas. The situation has only deteriorated, as told in Chapter 4 of Why Palestine Matters.
Today, Israelis and Palestinians live extremely segregated lives. This video by The Nation shows Israeli society on African refugees. "About 60,000 African migrants have arrived in Israel since 2006, fleeing unrest in their home countries. But upon arrival in the ostensibly democratic country, the migrants have faced intense persecution and have been branded as 'infiltrators' by right-wing politicians and activists."
